Summer Program Opportunities

MBA is continuing to plan for summer training sessions with the hope that they can be held as usual.  We will postpone or cancel training as needed based on federal and state recommendations and in accordance with stay-at-home orders and other social distancing guidelines.  We may have a scenario where we don’t do training in June but start sessions in July/August??  As everything these days, it’s TBD.  Stay tuned.

Marisa Gustafson - Marisa graduated from Mahtomedi High School in 2017, where she played as a varsity starter for five years. She is now in her sophomore year at Gustavus Adolphus College where she plays for the basketball team and is pursuing a Spanish education degree and a coaching minor.  This is Marisa’s fourth year working as a trainer for the Mahtomedi Basketball Association.   She has worked as a player coach for several summer basketball camps, and along with her dad, is currently coaching a spring/summer AAU team.

Mark Gustafson - Mark has been coaching/training basketball for over 30 years including several years with both the boys and girls varsity programs in Mahtomedi and with competitive AAU teams and youth traveling teams.  He served on the Mahtomedi Basketball Association board for 16 years.  As a lead trainer for the MBA the last three years, small group training has become one of Mark’s top priorities and favorite activities as it provides an opportunity to forget about the wins and losses and focus purely on skill development.

Sam Newman - Sam graduated from Mahtomedi High School in 2015, was a three-year varsity starter, captained the team in his junior and senior years, and was an all-conference selection his senior year. Sam will graduate from Bethel University in 2019. Sam has been an assistant at Coach Newman’s summer camp for eight years and currently serves as an assistant for the Mahtomedi HS boys freshman and varsity teams.
